“Finally, the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead)”. John 20: 8 – 9

Let’s weigh in on this: John , following Peter, recounts that he went in and believed. Yet it is added in verse 9 that they, the disciples, still did not understand the scripture. How do we reconcile these two. Did he believe that Jesus in fact rose from the dead, but he didn’t understand the significance of what that meant for us in terms of redemption from sin? Thoughts?

I need to take another look at those Old Testament verse references that John Gill notes in verse 9.

So, it took Pentecost and the indwelling Holy Spirit, ten days after Jesus amended into heaven, the foretelling which was through the Jewish festival of Shavout. Here is a link to article to help us:
