Excerpt from chapter six of “Saints Who Battled Satan” by Paul Thigpen / “St. Anthony of the Desert – Spearhead of an Invasion Force”

“The Spirt immediately drove Him out into the wilderness. And He was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan; and He was with the wild beasts.” Mark 1: 12-13

Just the first two paragraph introduction:

“Around the year 251, a child was born to wealthy landowner parents in a town in Lower Egypt, and they called him Anthony. The imperial persecutions had continued in waves for almost two centuries, but for the time being, Egypt was a relatively safe place for a Christian boy to grow up. When the parents died, he he disposed of his inheritance, arranged for his sister to be cared for , and set up a small hermitage in the desert land not far from the town.

Our Lord had engaged and overcome Satan in combat out in the wilderness. Anthony’s mission was to imitate His engagement and His victory and to teach others to do the same. They would become the pioneers of monastic life.”

Soli Deo Gloria!

Question for our discussion, fellowship, and prayer: Since the time of Anthony, has there ever been a time that his quote so applies to our world globally today?
