12/20/2022 – Day 296 – Deuteronomy 4-6 – Rich!: The Jewish “Shema”, the greatest commandment – 6: 4-5 / The 10 commandments – Chapter 5 and so much more!

Last cycle for this reading, March 9, 2021, I commented that if I were forced to condense my Bible down from nearly 2,000 pages to 100 pages, I would be remiss not to include these three pages: Read this and then go back to day 1 of a 365 read day program.

The Jewish Shema: “Hear, O Israel, The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” Deuteronomy 6: 4-5

And read through verses 6 through 9 again! Do you think these verses might take even an added emphasis, given their position right behind the greatest commandment as pronounced by Jesus.

Last cycle, I highlighted 4:10 ; 4:24; 4:36; and 5:26.

This cycle:

4:2: “Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you.” Within the very last four verses of the Bible in Revelation 22: 18-19: “I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.”

4:30: “When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the Lord your God and obey him. For the Lord your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your forefathers, which he confirmed to them by oath.”

See end times prophecy, let scripture testify to scripture: See Hosea 3:5 / Romans 11: 25-27 (not noted by John Gill below)

6: 13-15: “Fear the Lord your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name. Do not follow other gods (*A – below) , the gods of the people around you; for the Lord your God, who is among you, is a jealous God and his anger will burn against you, and he will destroy you from the face of the land.”

‘*(A) – Other gods today – that would be ourself, narcissism is rampant.

Note – The Ten Commandments were originally presented to God’s people in Exodus 20 through his messenger, Moses, and recounted in Deuteronomy, Chapter five.

Soli Deo Gloria!
