The Pausing Man
Monday, March 18, 2024
Saul/Paul zealously persecuted believers until the light of God knocked him off his feet and life was changed. It seemed like he became a totally different person, but in truth, the moment he was struck by the Light was the moment he was born for. When the Lord asked him why he was persecuting Him, he asked the Lord “What is Your name?” Saul’s parents gave him the Hebrew name Shaul, meaning “he who asks,” and Paulos, or Paul, is linked to the words to pause. For the first time in his life, he’s pausing and asking. This was what he was named for. God had a purpose for his life, and confronted with it, he stepped out and took the risk. When you step out and respond to God’s call, you change- not into someone else, but into the person you’re made to become in the first place. Believe the Lord, obey, step out in faith, and do what you’ve never done before. Like Shaul, you’ll fulfill the destiny for which you were born and become the person you were always meant to be.

“So the people said to Joshua, ‘We will worship the Lord our God and obey Him”. Joshua 24:24
My Apologetics Study Bible footnote for verse span: Joshua 24: 19-28 says this: “Joshua expresses doubt concerning the sincerity of commitment on the part of the people, but the people insist that they will be faithful in worshipping the Lord alone to the exclusion other gods. Whether Joshua really meant to question their sincerity on this occasion, or whether his words demanding recertification of their loyalty were a formal part of the ceremony, is open to interpretation. In either case, halfhearted commitment is worthless.” (*)
‘(*) – So, to support that position, we let scripture testify to scripture: The Book of Revelation, “The Letter to Laodicea”: “I know your works, that you were cold or hot, So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I am going to vomit you out of My mouth.” Revelation 3:15
So, from this verse, are we to say that we are saved by works? Absolutely not! Look at James 2: 14 – 26: “Faith and Works” section, which proclaims clearly: “For just as the body without spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.” In other words, we cannot measure hearts, only the Lord our God is capable of that, but if we are truly saved and therefore we have an indwelling Holy Spirit, it is impossible not to have works. Works therefore evidences saving faith by His grace. If you know of a future brother or sister in Christ that has been sitting in the pew an hour each week his or her whole life, and his life looks like all the other pagans (future Christian), be God’s messenger, pray and witness to him as if he or she is lost, and needs to be found!
What say you? Always connected through prayer and by His grace!
Soli Deo Gloria!
Your brother in Christ,
Jimmy
