Quick note on Spurgeon sermon link: Note he assures us that we aren’t talking fear as in “dread”, but filial fear, like a child “fearing” his father in love. Read on. Is there such thing as a “bad” Spurgeon sermon?

“In the fear of the LORD one has a strong confidence and his children have a refuge.” Proverbs 14:26

Jesus proclaimed: “Don’t fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; rather, fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Matthew 10:28

And then, right behind it: “Aren’t two sparrow sold for a penny? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s consent. But even the hairs of your head have all been counted. Don’t be afraid therefore; your are worth more than many sparrows.” Matthew 10: 29-30

John Piper comments:

It seems amazing to us, perhaps, that immediately following his warning to “fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell,” Jesus says something designed to give us deep peace and full confidence under God’s fatherly care. ” (from link below)
