Alistair noted that a member noted he had 45 sermons on Samuel so he could “speed it up”. lol But this sermon on Chapter 23 of 1 Samuel 23 was rich to say the least, it turned out to be like a long overdue drink of water through a firehose. In verse 9, Alistair mentioned David’s call for discerning God’s will through the “Urim & Thummin” which was under the breastplate of the high priest. This is a separate study on itself.ephod. The point: God was faithful to His annointed David in delivering him time after time from the hands of Saul.
Saul had gone completely evil at this point, declaring to all that “God was delivering David to him”. Of course he wasn’t. Through this deliverance, it was a touch and go trial for David. In verse 12, God tells David that indeed his “allies” at Keilah will deliver David into the hand of Saul if he doesn’t move on.
And why do I list Jonathan as one of my three favorite characters in the Old Testament? Check out Jonathan’s admonition as messenger for the Lord to his best friend David in 23: 16 – 18. Bear in mind he was proclaiming David as King, a future position he otherwise held by birthright. These two faithful and true friends would not meet again in this life.
