04/09/2025 – Day 283 – 2 Chronicles – Chapters 15 – 19 // 18: 19-21. “Lying spirits.”
Our first cycle post of this reading is dated 02/24/2021 – Covering the faithful life of Macaiah in Chapter 18.
Today, the highlighted verse commetary comes out of “The Evidence Bible – NKJV”:
“18: 19-21. Lying spirits. There are some who stand in moral judgement over God and accuse Him of sin, because he sent lying spirits to Ahab. But this incident is consistent with other similar occurrences in Scripture (see Ezekiel 14:9; 2 Thessalonians 2: 11). Those who don’t have the wisdom to fear God will point a holier-than-thou finger at the heavens and accuse God of sin. But those who fear Him will say, ‘The judgements of the Lord are true and righteous altogether’ (Psalm 19:9). the Bible teaches that sinners ‘give place to the devil’ (Ephesians 4:27), and warns that Satan ‘walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour’ (1 Peter 5:8, emphasis added). If the Father of Lies deceives sinners and blinds their minds, it is because they are willingly serving him as their spiritual father (see John 8:44). They are children of disobedience (see Ephesians 2:2; 5:6). This is all done under the permissive will of God. In His perfect righteousness, He allows Satan to steal, kill, and destroy, as evident in the case of Job. In this passage, Micaiah informed Ahab that his prophets were all deceived by a lie, and that god was going to bring disaster on him — but still Ahab refused to believe the word spoken by the prophet. Sinnners so often do the same when they hear the truth of the gospel. They willingly serve the devil and spurn the truth, ignoring the warning to flee to Christ.”
Soli Deo Gloria!
