04/03/2026 – “Why did Jesus have to die in order to forgive us? There was a debt to be paid—God himself paid it. There was a penalty to be born—God himself bore it. Forgiveness is always a form of costly suffering.” – Timothy Keller, The Reason for God

Comment:
Timothy Keller pointed out that many express confusion over”substitutionary atonement”, noting that in the relative seemingly smallest ways it is “life”. Say for example, pulling up in a friend’s driveway, I run into his garage, causing extensive damage. Somebody has to pay the price! If my friend pays for the repairs, that is substitutionary atonement. Or, if instead of teaching my grandchildren, Deuteronomy 6: 7-9, I repeatedly opt for more “fun” stuff. Somebody, is going to pay the price, either I miss out on the “fun” stuff or my grandchildren will end up paying the price through their lifetime, a very sad opportunity cost!
