In the Roman Catholic mass, a singing of “Agnus Dei”, “Lamb of God” in Latin, goes back to the 7th century. As a boy , in the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church, here was our liturgical response on communion Sunday:

“Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world; grant us Your peace, grant us Your peace.”

In John 1:29, John the Baptist proclaims to the multitude at the approach of Jesus: “Behold! , the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” And he repeats it again in verse 36 , the next day.

Enjoy! Soli Deo Gloria! Can you envision hearing the angels sing this as you approach the gate?
