08/21/2021: Quick personal reflection on my retirement love shower.
Once again, a key motivating Bible verse for me: “For unto whomever much is given of him shall be much required.” Luke 12:48
So, if love is water, I got hit with a blast from a fire hose all week leading to my last day at work and the metro yesterday. And, I don’t know why I was so surprised with the surprise that was awaiting me beyond the usual Nancy and Jett greeting committee at the driveway. There were signs , balloons and last but not least, short video posts from a packed cast of loved ones driven from an Em post. With Em involved, one shouldn’t be surprised about surprises but I never seem to be properly prepared. (perhaps she prays on that; I can’t come up with a logical explanation)
So, this morning, I need to focus on projects that have been waiting for me. I am going to use an analogy that links to my key motivating bible verse. Awhile back I looked up the world record for the 60+ age group in the 100 meter run. My immediate reaction: “I think I can beat that!” So, it wasn’t long before, after dinner together with Nancy and Em, I realized I was finally close to a marked out outdoor track open to the public. So Emily had the stopwatch at the finish line, Nancy was the starter. Just before the gun, Emily shared her thoughts with Mom just before the gun: “Mom, this isn’t going to work!” haha
So, God forbid I should ever lose the burning desire to give more love than I receive. But in actual fact, I am well aware that I am fighting a losing battle. It is summed up in four words: “God’s love is unfathomable.” (personally, I don’t think we will ever catch up with it, not even in heaven) And yep, that had an exclamation behind it this week! That’s my story and I’m sticking with it because it isn’t going to change.
p.s. – small stuff: I am going to beat that record before I drop.
Soli Deo Gloria!
Love,
Your brother in Christ,
Jimmy
