Maybe a brother can check me on this: First, here are the seven things listed in verses 6:16 – 6:19, all of them being detestable and six of which are those that the Lord hates:

  1. haughty eyes
  2. a lying tongue
  3. hands that shed innocent blood
  4. a heart that devises wicked schemes
  5. feet that are quick to rush into evil
  6. a false witness who pours out lies.
  7. a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.

My guess is that the six are: #1 through #4, #6 and #7. Why? They are all injurious to fellow souls on their face.

That leaves #5 as detestable but not one of those the Lord hates. Of course #5 would seem to precede into the other sins by its very nature.

Thoughts? Neither Gill nor Henry answered my questions on this one, but perhaps I was too hasty. Prevention? Back to 4:23 and the post this week: “Admonition to guard our hearts” through steadfast prayer and immersion into The Word. SolI Deo Gloria!

Again, I apologize : I am still behind on structural enhancements to this blog. So, if you need a copy for the 365 daily assignments on this weekly theme read through the Bible, please email me at the administrator email address:

I can send you a pdf and/or an excel version of the daily assignments. Here are the daily themes throughout the year:

Monday – Gospels – Matthew through Acts

Tuesday – Law – Genesis through Deuteronomy

Wednesday – History: Joshua; Ruth: 1 Samuel; 2 Samuel; 1 Kings; 2 Kings; 1 Chronicles; 2 Chronicles; Ezra; Nehemiah; Esther

Thursday – Psalms – All year long! haha – Chapters 1 through 150.

Friday – Poetry – Job; Proverbs; Ecclesiastes; Song of Solomon

Saturday – Prophets – Isaiah; Jeremiah; Lamentation; Ezekiel; Daniel; Hosea; Joel; Amos; Obadiah; Micah; Nahum;

Habbakkuk; Zechariah; Malachi; Revelation.

Sunday – Epistles: Romans; Corinthians, both I and II; Galations ; Ephesians; Phillipians; Colossians; Thessalonians, both I and II; Timothy, both I and II; Titus; Phillipians; Hebrews; James; Peter, both I and II; John, all three; Jude

So, you would read Old Testament four times a week and New Testament three times a week. I am used this so many times, I have lost count. I am unlikely to change to any other read plan. I like how you read Old Testament prophecy and then see Jesus quote the very same verses in the New Testament for the very same week from time to time.

Love,

Jimmy
