The link above is matthew henry’s summarized commentary version of Chapter 24 – Jesus pronouncing the “Signs of the End of the Age”. The interpretation can be very confusing I believe if we don’t realize that verses 32 through 35 are speaking of the destruction of the temple and Jerusalem, not the 2nd coming of Christ. And then, verses 36 through 41 are speaking to the 2nd coming.
Realizing that verse 14 speaks to the gospel being preached world-wide, doesn’t verses 9 through 14 really describe our world today like never before. In our PCA missionary focused church of a few years ago, we had a revolving door of missionary families come to speak to us on Sunday. It was edifying and inspirational. Once such family spoke to a remote area in Madagascar that they were serving as I recall, where Bibles were being printed for the first time in the people’s native language. Thanks to ministries like the Wycliffe Bible Translators, there aren’t many places left in the world that are awaiting bibles in their native tongues.
Subscribe to “Voice of the Martyrs” if you don’t believe that worldwide persecution of Christians isn’t proliferrating at an alarming rate. But yet, the areas that suffer the most is directly correlated where the body of Christ is proliferrating in the very near term. I have highlighted the film: Sheep Among Wolves – Part II, a moving and inspiring story of the fastest growing church in the world perhaps, in Shiite Muslem Iran of all places. We won’t hear about that in the world. Has anyone taken notice of the growth of the Messianic Jewish population , who are preaching the Good News of Jesus Christ, like there is no tomorrow. And, in fact, this chapter points out that is “how we shall live.”
We are saved by faith and God’s grace alone. But I believe scripture is clear that we are all judged and rewarded in heaven based on how we applied the gifts he bestowed on us to glorify him and serve our fellow souls. ” The Parable of the Talents” , Chapter 25, verses 14 through 30, clearly supports that belief I believe. But if I am reflecting much on personal rewards in heaven, I think it is a sign there is much more sanctification road left to travel for me, God willing.
Soli Deo Gloria!
