08/17/2020 – Herbert Hoover – What a life story! History to this point has gotten it so wrong, but I don’t think if he were here today, he would care…
Only God can measure a heart. But I think he left this world with the anticipatory joy of a Savior that would soon greet him with: “Well, done, my good and faithful servant!” So, I encourage you to read this American Minute article (first link below) from Bill Federer and his colleagues. We owe much thanks to them. But beyond that: 1) Take five minutes to listen to the prageru.com presentation: “Herbert Hoover, Success or Failure” (2nd link below) ; and, 2) A genealogy spin, his is an example of so many. As, my Dad once said: Everybody has a king and a horse thief, in their line, I will let you guess which one they invariably follow. (bottom link)
Just one point: I find it ironic that in the election of 1932, FDR used his political acumen to successfuly attack Hoover as an elite that didn’t care about those common folk that struggled. He didn’t let the facts get in the way, as we see both Hoover and his wife Lou put their very lives at risk to help the persecuted and vulnerable during horrific crises. (see Boxer Rebellion – China – early 20th century – American Minute article) So goes the saying, those who don’t know history are destined to repeat it. (“ignorance is not bliss!” and/or “form over substance” leads to tyranny)
Ok, I divert to the trivial on this last one, link below. On a quick browse, you will find that Hoover has a plethora of familiar names, both living and in recent history, with very specific connections defined. How is that? Well, to name one, he goes back to King Edward I, 13th/14th centruy king of England. As a Bruce, I snarl at that for he more than earned his nickname as “Hammer of the Scots.” He has many connections to other American presidents and the royal family in England. He is the 21st cousin of Dick Cheney, another snarl on that one but I’ll forgive Hoover for that one too, he didn’t choose it.
