11/03/2022 – Day 249 – Psalm 103 – 107
Chapter Summaries from “Halleys Bible Handbook”:
Psalm 103. A Psalm of God’s Mercy
“Thought to have been written in David’s old age, summarizing God’s dealings with him. One of the best loved Psalms.”
Psalm 104. A Nature Psalm
“God the Creator, the Care-Taker in detail, over all the works of the world. Reminds us of Jesus’ word, Not a sparrow falls to the ground without your Heavenly Father.”
Psalms 105, 106. Two Historical Psalms
“A Poetic Summary of Israel’s History. Dwells especially on their Miraculous Delivery out of Egypt.”
Question: Where in the New Testament do we find a historical account of Israel’s History?
Psalms 107, 108, 109. God’s Mercy and Justice
“Psalm 107. Wonders of God’s Lovingkindness, in His dealings with His People and management of the works of Nature.”
“Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being , praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits — who forgives all our sins and heals all our diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” Psalm 103: 1-5
“I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the Lord. But may sinners vanish from the earth and the wicked be no more. Praise the Lord, O my soul. Praise the Lord.” Psalm 104: 33-35
“They did not destroy the peoples as the Lord had commanded them, but they mingled with the nations and adopted their customs. They worshiped their idols, which became a snare to them. They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons…. They defiled themselves by what they did; by their deeds they prostituted themselves.”
“He caused them to be pitied by all who held them captive.” Psalm 106: 46 – Just one verse, but doesn’t this point to Romans 8:28?: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to His purpose.” Our marching orders: Just trust and obey! Do we really believe what we say we believe is really true? (By the grace of God alone.)
Soli Deo Gloria!
