Brennan Manning biography / remembrance (1934 – 2013):

Brennan Manning was our guest renewal conference speaker that night at First Presbyterian Church in Houston. The year was around 1993. We recall Brennan Manning’s story of a visit as a young priest with a dying poor young woman overseas in a leper colony without family. When he entered this dark stark room, he immediately beheld a miracle: The woman’s face was beaming, radiating an intense light, like one might expect from an angel. She joyfully pronounced to him: “I met your Jesus last night, He paid me a visit last night.” She was not a believer at this point, she in fact knew very little about the Christian faith.

Brennan asked her: “What did He say to you?” She replied:

“Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, and come with me. See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in the land. The fig tree forms its early fruit; the blossoming vines spread their fragrance. Arise, come, my darling; my beautiful one, come with me.”

And she did soon thereafter Brennan’s visit with her. Brennan just noted he recognized Jesus’ word to her as Song of Songs Chapter 2: Verses 10 through 13.

Soli Deo Gloria!
