Commentary – 10/23/2020 – Day 5 – Praying the Bible – The narrative example – John 5…. Even a 10,000 ft. view of the world today is getting uglier by the day! (and I am not talking “climate change”)

I am going back to original posts for “comments” from our week with “praying the bible” , as I can’t post a comment on a future date scheduled. Only one day in advance in this case. Speaking of prayer, I pray for the day we have long threads of comments with multiple contributing brothers exploring God’s truth in the passages. I’m old fashioned, we don’t need zoom conferences exclusively for that purpose. Think of Paul’s letters to the body of Christ, that are an integral part of God’s Word, by God’s grace. Those letters had a built in delay. I recall the “old days” , back to my youth, to my father’s sibs sending chain letters around to each other. Dad had 11 siblings, so those chain letters came in stuffed 8 1/2″ x 11″ envelopes. Each recipient would take out the oldest letter, leaving the most recent 11. A cycle would last six months to a year. It’s a good thing they all lived long and healthy lives, they were able to go through multiple cycles. Today, a real time blog is not good enough, you have to “jazz” it up to make it visually appealing , and seductively addictive to the point where the content is sacrificed. So have we advanced as a society with all of our post-modern tools? It seems to me we have alot of lonely trapped people spending entire days on social media in a constant spin cycle conjured up by the devil and his minions.

So , there is from “ACTS”, the “S” – Supplication here: “Lord, do not let me walk by the man looking for just anyone to put him in the pool!” There is a brother that came to mind, who has battled a disability for over a decade, never a complaint, always smiling and encouraging with a good morning each and every morning at work. There is “T” – thanksgiving: “Lord , thank you for giving us our brother, which is a living embodiment of your heart. Holy Spirit, we praise you!, for you are always with us, through your messengers!”

So , there is a pray through the Bible discipline that can directly follow a “365 day read through the Bible plan. Maybe , this is where , we leave out say the book of Leviticus. And as we go through the 2nd half of our read through, stopping in prayer of course, but also mindful of noting and categorizing the prayer opportunities going forward : Is it:

  • Detail verses or narrative sections? “d” or “n”
  • “A” / “C”/ “T” and or “S”?

Live long enough, and we will pray over the same sections of the bible mulitple times in our lives. But never, will they conjure up the same heart felt prayers that spawn conversations with God!

Soli Deo Gloria!
