07/27/2022 – Day 150 – 1 Kings 1 – 4 / “Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers.”
We covered this reading in the last cycle on 10/14/2020. On a search, you will find a real nice 1 Kings Summary commentary from Henry H. Halley.
Chapter 3 covers Solomon wisdom as a new young king asking the Lord for a discerning heart so he can serve his people. Sadly this chapter started with Solomon marrying Pharaohs daughter as an alliance. Look at Nehemiah 13: 25 – 27 where Nehemiah calls out this sin of Solomon. Look at the Lord’s command to the Jewish people in driving out the nations from the promised land – Deuteronomy 7:1 – 6. Verse 3 we read: “Solomon showed his love for the Lord by walking according to the statutes of his father Davd, except that he offered sacrifices and burned incense on the high places.” The spiritual disintegration was already occuring at Solomon’s death, accelerating thereafter.
2 Corinthians 6:14
“Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness”
1 Peter 2:9:
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
