04/30/2021 – Alessandro Marcello, Concerto – a “hidden” early 18th century gem perhaps.

Alessandro Marcello Concerto in re minore per oboe e orchestra : Alessandro was an older 18th century contemporary of Vivaldi. This composition was transcribed by Bach onto Hapsichord. I am admittedly Bach pro-biased so: If Bach picks it up, it must be good, no? My opinion: With my increasing knowledge but still very limited knowledge of “Classical”, Marcello could indeed be a hidden gem that not many people don’t even know about, even perhaps afficionados. But as to this short segment version, the clarinetist really impressed me. So the composition is titled for oboe and strings and we have a lead clarinet, interesting there too. And if you like this as well, check out the whole version, audio only. Much of his life work could probably be described as the last of the Venetian baroque style, I think I will be back! (here too , I like listening to Bach’s baroque compositions on harsichord) Enjoy!

Full version of the concerto I believe:

Soli Deo Gloria indeed! There is music like this so there is a God! (not as if we need this evidence to draw this conclusion…)
