Praying the Bible – Day 4

So far in Days one, two, and three, Don Whitney has explained Praying the Bible from the Psalms. Today he explains that the Psalms are a great place to start Praying the Bible because they are “inspired by God for the purpose of reflecting back to God.”

He then goes on to explain that the New Testament letters are probably the second easiest portion of the Bible to pray because they are compacted with content which makes great matters for prayer. To practice he takes us to 1 Thessalonians 2. Why? Because in this case it’s probably not as common to us as Romans 8 or 1 Corinthians 13. But he goes on to explain, that as a matter of time, due to being in our daily reading of scripture at a certain place, that perhaps we just feel lead to pray from a place where we are – in this case 1 Thessalonians 2.

As the verses unfold we come to suffering. Are you suffering? From what? Do you know someone who is suffering? Of what? Are they ill? Use any or all of these as springboards for your prayer. Please watch as Whitney explains Praying the Bible from the New Testament letters:

Ok, “ACTS”: I have Adoration covered just through Psalm 145 alone. But check out 1 Thesalonian 2 for “C” for Confession, just two verses: 9 & 10: “For you remember , brethren, our labor and toil; for laboring night and day, that we might not be a burden, to any of you, we preached to you the gospel of God. You are witnesses, and God also, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we behaved ourselves among you who believe; as you know how we exhorted, and comforted, and charged every one of you, as a father does his own children… ” Did I have my all in the mission as described here? There is alot of “C” here for me. I think our go to for “C” and sin are sins of “commission”, what we did that we shouldn’t have done. But, this brings out sins of “omission”, what we should’ve done and didn’t . So, have I gave it my all, serving others to my fullest! No juice left in the tank at the end of the day… My footnote in my bible adds this comment to these verses: “We must strive to be devout, just , and blameless in the sight of a sinful world. God forbid that any souls should stumble because they see what they perceive to be hypocrisy in our lives.”
Soli Deo Gloria! Blessings to y’all’s day!
